NATO’s broomstick army

In the good old days when you typed into Google, French military victories and pressed the ‘I’m feeling lucky’ button, the response would be, ‘Don’t you mean French military losses.’ The same could soon be said of NATO. Let’s face it, if NATO countries couldn’t even open a can of whoop-arse on the Taliban with their pimped-up Toyota Hiluxes, rusty AK-47s, and illiterate dirt farmers in sandals, how were they going to defeat the Russians? To be fair, it’s not surprising we didn’t see it coming. We are being distracted into believing men can give birth, and the world will end in a climate Armageddon. And then there was being told if we didn’t wear masks or questioned being jabbed with an untested vaccine, we were granny-killing members of QAnon.

Last week’s NATO summit was a sad gathering of the woke West in Lithuania because it is having its butt handed to it after a failed Ukrainian counter-offensive against Russia. Hint: when the establishment elite like US military historian and author Max Boot says, ‘It’s way too early to write off Ukraine’s counteroffensive,’ think the opposite. Boot is part of the intellectual oligarchy that encouraged us into this mess. If the United States Joint Chiefs of Staff General Mark ‘Brassbottom’ Milley had a brother from another mother, it would be Boot.

One of the people responsible for the mess in Europe and a weakened NATO is European Union Commissioner Ursula von der Leyen. Ms von der Leyen is a good example of what happens to the security of a nation led by woke green globalists. It is completely deranged that despite years of denuding their armed forces these globalists want more war with Russia, and it appears China. You can see why they hated rough-tweeting President Trump for calling them out. It was Trump who, at a 2018 NATO summit dinner, made them look like fools by pointing out that their energy deal with Russia undermined European security.

But back to Ursula. Without wanting to pick on her, as she seems like a nice person, but that is part of the problem with our leaders as Machiavelli will tell you. We need leaders to be lions to scare the wolves, and foxes to spot the traps. These nice people are neither. Like Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Ursula represents everything that is wrong with the West, its security, and the consequences of woke green madness.

Before becoming EU Commissioner, Ursula was Germany’s Defense Minister and responsible for the slow, elegant decline of the Bundeswehr (the German armed forces) to such an extent that the first offer of help from Germany to Ukraine was helmets.

In Germany, Ursula was regarded as one of the weakest Ministers under former Chancellor Angela Merkel. You will remember Merkel. She opened Europe’s borders. Under Ursula, former Defense Minister Rupert Scholz during the Kohl Administration, described the Bundeswehr’s condition as catastrophic.

Get this, under Ursula, things got so bad that during a NATO exercise, German soldiers tied broomsticks to their armoured vehicles. It’s ok. They painted them black first. But wait for it, these broomstick soldiers belonged to a joint NATO task force that would have been the first to deploy in case of an attack. No wonder German Tiger tanks now litter Ukraine’s battlefield. As reported in the Daily Mail in 2019, around the time Ursula quit as Defense Minister, US officials found out that German forces had been using mobile phones during a NATO exercise because of a lack of encrypted radio equipment. A 2019 Politico opinion piece declared, ‘Fighter jets and helicopters that don’t fly. Ships and submarines that can’t sail. Severe shortages of everything from ammunition to underwear.’ It’s the Locust Years all over again. These are the people who met at NATO to decide the strategic direction of the West.

Putting aside the point that this proxy war with Russia should have never happened in the first place, once the likelihood was certain, NATO failed to deliver. Instead, NATO suffered from the four poisons of the mind – fear, confusion, hesitation, and surprise. Even armchair strategists know the best fight is one avoided. The next best option is one that is brutal, swift, and short. NATO failed with the first, failed with annihilation, and is now failing with a strategy of exhaustion. British World War One Captain and military strategist Sir Basil Liddell Hart in his simple but brilliant work Strategy, advises against renewing an attack along the same line after it has once failed. It’s point two of what not to do in strategy. Instead, NATO is doubling down on its investment towards defeat, and risks revealing how it is an alliance of herbivores in a world of carnivores. Sadly, it is now being forced to adjust its ends to its means, rather than on its terms.

For a generation, the oligarch elites and globalists like Ursula have disregarded the grubby truth that their ideals rely on the hard power and security provided by realists. This infected our political class, which thought the West could be secured through virtue. In his memoirs, UK Prime Minister Winston Churchill laments the fatal fallacies that beset the West during the interwar period, when politicians delighted in smooth-sounding platitudes, refused to face unpleasant facts, and the interests of the state were traded for popularity and electoral success.

Like many of our political class today, they were a picture of fatuity and fickleness, devoid of guile, though not devoid of guilt, and though free from wickedness or evil design, they played a definite part in unleashing upon the world horrors and miseries beyond comparison in human experience. And here we find ourselves again.
